One of the things I’ve tried to work on this summer is enjoying the moment and really being present. Sometimes it can be so hard when there are dishes in the sink, laundry that needs to be done, and all the other things in life that pile up. If you haven’t noticed, we do a lot around here. We always find ourselves on some sort of adventure and still have so many planned to come. One of the things we are working on with the nuggets is to be happy with where we are at the moment. Since we do a lot with them and they are used to being on the go, we don’t want that to become a bad habit where they have a hard time just relaxing and being home.
The other day after I picked the nuggets up from school, A kept asking me, what are we going to do tonight. I asked him what he had in mind and he said, let’s have a picnic! I thought that was a great idea, but after working all day it isn’t always easy to do a lot when we get home. I decided to put on my mom hat and think for a second about how we could do this, keep it simple, yet still have fun. Duh, why not the backyard?!
A backyard picnic it was with with the finest cuisine on the menu of good old pb&J sandwiches. We even had three different kinds of jelly to choose from (we fancy), with some fruit, carrot sticks, and hummus.
It was so cute to see how happy the boys were and so fun to see little nugget trying to feed his stuffed doggy snacks. Of course being outside with two boys resulted in them bringing sticks and rocks to our picnic, but thankfully they are past the stage of trying to eat them—at least I hope so.
It was so relaxing to lay outside and watch the sunset but boy has it been getting chilly around here at night. I’m not so sure I’m ready for this just yet. I’m a go hard or go home summer type of gal so I like my temperatures to be warm at least until Labor Day weekend. I had my new floral sweater from Pinkblush to keep me warm and it was the perfect time to take it out of my fall pile to get some use. Of course the boys weren’t phased by anything and refused to put a jacket on, or shoes for that matter. I love how this sweater has pockets, because pockets are life, and the longer length on this makes it extra cozy. I’m shorter though, so it might not be longer on everyone. It’s perfect to throw on with a pair of shorts for those still summer nights, or jeans when the temperatures get even cooler.
I wanted to get a picture of the boys and I laying on our blanket but that lasted for all of about 30 seconds before I got tackled and ended up with leaves and grass in my hair #boymomlife. I’m thinking these simple backyard picnics might need to become a weekly thing before it gets too cold, and I have to admit, I kind of loved a night off from the kitchen with this even simpler menu.
